How do I transport, store, and recycle the Soku Minute Mattress?
This article is for facility and procurement teams. It explains how to transport, store, and recycle the Soku Minute Mattress. It also explains how to build a pallet for transport and storage.
Transport
- The Soku Minute Mattress Cartridge is a roll of 50 mattresses packed in its own box.
- One Europallet holds 40 cartridges. This equals 2,000 mattresses per pallet.
- Before the products leave the Soku warehouse, the pillowcases and the cartridges are combined on a pallet. A Soku Fieldkit can also be included on the same pallet.
Pallet build-up
The same pallet rules apply to both transport and storage.
- Always build up a pallet as shown in the illustration.
- Place a cardboard layer pad after every three layers of cartridges.
- Protect the finished pallet with mechanically applied stretch film.

Warning: Do not stack pallets on top of each other. A stacked pallet can damage the cartridges.
Storage
- The Soku Minute Mattress has a guaranteed shelf life of 5 years. To keep this guarantee valid, keep the products in their original packaging during transport and storage.
- Store the cartridges indoors, in a dry place. A covered warehouse is the best location.
- Keep the cartridges out of direct sunlight. Strong sunlight can affect the material.
- Store the cartridges at a temperature between −20 °C and +65 °C (−4 °F and 149 °F).
Note: In practice, the shelf life can be much longer than 5 years. This depends on the storage conditions.
Tip: Ideally, let the cartridges come to a working temperature before you produce mattresses. A range of about 0 °C to 40 °C (32 °F to 104 °F) gives the best result.
Recycling
All parts of the Soku Minute Mattress can be recycled.
- The mattress is made of LDPE, which is fully recyclable.
- The pillowcase is made of polypropylene (PP), which is also fully recyclable.
- The cartridge box, the cartridge core, and the pillowcase box are made of cardboard. You can recycle the cardboard with your local paper and cardboard stream.
For used mattresses and pillowcases, you have two main options.
- Use your own waste system. Where possible, recycle the used products through your existing waste system. This is often mechanical recycling or energy recovery. It limits extra transport and keeps the carbon footprint low.
- Use the Soku Lifecycle Service. Collect the used mattresses and pillowcases in the Soku collection bags. Return the full bags to the Soku warehouse. You can pre-order this service on the Soku website. The transport cost is paid by you.
Tip: When a local recycling option is available, use it. This lowers transport and keeps the carbon footprint low.
Chemical recycling gives the highest material quality, but it is still costly and not widely available. For most organizations, local recycling or the Soku Lifecycle Service is the better choice today.
