The science and engineering behind the Soku Minute Mattress
Share
Introduction
The Soku Minute Mattress is the result of careful engineering and material science, built for rapid, hygienic, and scalable deployment. Below, we explain what makes the system different from a technical point of view.
Materials for safety and performance
- Certified LDPE film: Each mattress uses European-made LDPE film, certified for food contact (EU 10/2011, 1935/2004). This meets high standards for safety and hygiene.
- Minimal material, strong result: At just 170 grams per mattress, the design reduces waste while keeping durability and comfort.
- REACH compliance: All materials are free from Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), which supports chemical safety for users and the environment.
Industrial automation for rapid deployment
- External inflator technology: The system uses a robust, industrial-grade inflator that connects to the cartridge. This machine, adapted from proven packaging technology, can inflate and seal up to 200 mattresses per hour with a single operator.
- Precision welding: Automated welding creates airtight chambers at exact intervals. This gives consistent quality and lets each mattress separate easily from the cartridge at the tear seams.
- Operator efficiency: One person can manage the whole process, from loading the cartridge to starting the inflator and collecting finished mattresses.
From cartridge to ready mattress
- The operator loads the mattress cartridge into the inflator.
- At the push of a button, the inflator feeds, inflates, and seals each mattress in sequence.
- Each finished mattress is separated at its tear line, ready for immediate use: fresh, hygienic, and recyclable.
Sustainable by design
- Low carbon footprint: Producing the film emits only 0.46 kg CO2 per mattress, as verified by EcoChain LCA and ISO 14040-44.
- Recyclable materials: All components are fully recyclable, which supports recycling and reduces waste.
- Efficient logistics: The compact cartridge format allows high-volume transport and storage, which reduces environmental impact and cost.
Why Soku's engineering matters
- It combines proven industrial automation with certified, safe materials.
- It delivers speed, hygiene, and sustainability for large-scale sleeping needs.
- It suits emergency relief, events, and any situation where rapid deployment of mattresses is essential.
